The ongoing SelfPaint project, a collaboration between Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre, Fraunhofer IPA and Fraunhofer ITWM has been covered by the French newspaper Le Monde.

The goal of the project is to create a fully automatic framework, consisting of scanning a part to be painted, optimizing the paint thickness and robot path using the simulation software IPS Virtual Paint and finally assuring quality by inline THz thickness measurements. The framework is expected to be a valuable tool for manufacturing companies, capable of reducing time spent in the design phase, energy and paint usage. The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2018.
