Automatic Path Planning and Line Balancing

Weld Robot Line

In today’s automotive industry, although most development is done virtually, some decisions are still based on experience rather than mathematical analysis. In order to make the production preparation and process more efficient, FCC and Wingquist Laboratory at Chalmers have worked with Volvo Cars, Volvo Trucks, Saab Automobile and Scania CV in VINNOVA funded projects to develop new methods and tools for automatic weld load balancing combined with path planning.

Virtual Paint Shop - Spray Painting

Trunk Lid

An innovative software for simulation of spray painting in automotive paint shops has been developed. The software is based on research within the MERA and FFI programs funded by Vinnova. Our research partners are Volvo Cars, Saab Automobile, Scania, Volvo AB and Swerea IVF.

Geometry and Motion Planning

Simulation of Flexible Cables and Hoses

Pre deformed engine hoses

The project aims at improving the competitiveness of Swedish vehicle industry, through a more effective and quality assured production planning of flexible components.

Computational Engineering and Design

ISOP - Paper Forming

Paper forming

In the Innovative Simulation of Paper (ISOP) project with industrial partners Albany International, Eka Chemicals, Stora Enso and Tetra Pak, methods and algorithms are developed for simulation of early paper forming.
